High School Letterman Jackets

I think it is time we discuss an issue that is on everyone's mind....the High School Letterman Jacket. In high school, you would see people walking down the hallways in such jackets. You would know what sports they played because it would be displayed in big obnoxious letters across the back of their jackets. This popularity propaganda was fine in high school. But sadly, the popularity expires 4 years from the date of purchase. Once out of high school, these jackets lose meaning and should be thrown in an old dusty box with your graduation tassel and your dried up prom corsage. This is especially necessary if you are going off to college. I am referring, of course, to a strange individual who lives in my building. She still wears her high school jacket. If she had an '02 on her jacket, then maybe, just maybe, I would cut her some slack. But what number appears on the jacket? A big ol '96. That's right, she graduated high school in 1996.......7 years ago! I guess 7 years just isn't long enough to find a new jacket to wear. But thank the Lord she still wears the jacket! Because it is entirely necessary for all of WIU to know that she was on the bowling team at some Podunk high school in 1996.
