12 Percent Is The Best Percent
Sunday, June 11, 2006 at 2:45PM Today marks 3 years in my relationship with Colleen. That means I've been with her for 12% of my life. She actually forgot about it at first, which is funny because usually it's the guy who forgets things like that. I guess there has been some debate about which day was actually our anniversary.
We went to the Melting Pot in Shaumburg for dinner. It was fantastic. It was definitely a unique dining experience, and quite tasty I might add. We started off with a salad. Then came the cheese fondue. To dip in the cheese, you had your choice of bread, apples, and veggies like couliflower and carrots. My favorite was the bread. The veggies were pretty good. The apples were a little strange. I don't think I've ever had apples and cheese combined before.
After the cheese was time for dessert. Chocolate fondue. You had lots of dipping choices including strawberries, pineapple, bananas, pound cake, brownies and cheesecake. The bananas and pound cake were my favorite to dip in the chocolate. The pineapple was a little strange.
I rounded off my tasty meal with 2 banana martinis. Yum.
After dinner, we caught a comedy show at the brand new Improv theater at Woodfield Mall. Caroline Rhea was headlining. The place is really nice. It's roomy...in front of the stage are several tiered levels with tables. At the top level, there is a bar along the back wall. There is plenty of room to walk in between tables and aisles. This is where the Improv is superior to Zanies. Zanies is so packed tight, there is hardly room to walk. By the Improv has plenty of room. I also like how at the Improv, the wait staff brings your check before the show is over, so you don't have to wait after the show to get rung up and pay. There is also a roomy lobby with a bar and tons of pictures to look at in the hallways.
The show was good. It took a little time for the crowd to get warmed up, however. It wasn't a full house. I think, since it was opening weekend, people still didn't know about the place. By the time Caroline took the stage, the crowd was more wild. Maybe that has something to do with the 2 drink minimum. After the show, me and Colleen got a picture with Caroline which will eventually be put into our "Dan and Colleen with celebrities" series.
It was a perfect night to celebrate the best 12% of my life.

I think Kim and I went to The Melting Pot in Schaumburg for one of our anniversaries... maybe it was just Valentines Day or something... I don't remember. I liked it a lot more than Fondue Stube's in Chicago, the only other fondue place I have been to.
I've never been to the new Improv club. But based on your review, we might have to check it out after the holidays... maybe before #2 comes along (February).
