Meeting the band

I went down to the city last night to hang out with Sam. I convinced him to go see The Headlights, an indie band that I've been obsessed with lately. They were playing at a bar called The Empty Bottle off Western. It was only a mile or so from Sam's place, so we hopped on a bus to get there. After sitting down in an empty seat near the front, soon figured out why it's been at least 10 years since I've rode a CTA bus. There was a sleeping homeless lady across from us who smelled like she just pissed herself. But there was no where else to go on the bus, so we just had to tough it out til out destination. While trying to point my nose in the other direction to lessen the urine scent, I noticed my cousin Debbie sitting two rows behind us. What a random encounter. I talked to her for a few minutes until it was time to get off the bus.

The Empty Bottle was your basic "hole in the wall" bar. Dark, dingy, and smoky, with raw brick walls and a very dirty bathroom scribbled with graffiti. But there was something I liked about the place. Especially the fact that we could get bottles of beer for only $2.75. What a deal!

After an opening band, The Headlights went on and played a great show. It's great to see a band I love at such a small venue. You can get close to the stage and sucked into the performance. After their set, me and Sam decided to have one more beer. We noticed the lead singer and the guitarist mingling around the bar. Sam said that I should go talk to them, but I was too shy. But eventually, with the help of Sam, we walked over there and introduced ourselves. I talked to Erin, the lead singer and keyboardist for a while. She was very sweet. I also talked to the guitarist and ended up giving him my business card and told him if they ever wanted a video shot, that I was their man. I don't think I would have ever done this had I not consumed 4 beers, but it was pretty cool. I would LOVE to shoot a music video for them.

I love The Empty Bottle. I went there for a concert once and had such a great time!

And, I can't wait until you are a famous music video director!
