Wedding Season Has Begun

This past weekend we attended the first wedding of the season. Colleen's friend Nikki got married at the Milwaukee Zoo. Sounds weird, I know, but it didn't take place in the monkey cage. Now that I think of it, the monkey cage would have been pretty cool, but somewhat messy with all that poop flying around.

For those non-poop flinging types, the zoo has a banquet type building to be used for weddings. The ceremony and the reception were in the same room and there was about 3 hours between each. This gave people plenty of time to visit the bar and get trashed. There wasn't really anything to snack on at this time, and I had not really eaten all day, which is probably why I was buzzed after 1 glass of wine. I had a good time hanging out until dinner started. Then I was able to load up my buffet plate with every type of pasta imaginable, which was fantastic.

Every wedding has something different to offer. The different thing at this wedding was karaoke. The DJ played normal songs, interlaced with karaoke songs sang by various wedding attendees. The whole karaoke thing did not take off as good as expected. It took some convincing by the DJ to get anyone to come up there. At one point the DJ karaoked some songs, and he was horrible. Especially his Elvis song. I may have gone up and sang, but I was all congested from the cold I was recovering from. And it didn't help that the DJ's didn't know how to use their own equipment. The few people that did sing in the beginning created horrible feedback through the speakers. They ended up turning down the levels of the mics to fix the problem, when really they probably could have pointed the speakers away from the microphone. Since the level was so low, you could just barely hear people sing, unless they were belting out some diva-like vocals.

The DJ also played all the wedding standards such as "Chicken Dance" and "Cha Cha Slide", which is probably why I didn't get up and dance til more towards the end of the reception.

I liked Nikki's grandma. She cracked me up. She was a little old lady on a mission to take pictures of everyone at the wedding.

I had to do a mandatory shot with the groom. I rejected his offer of tequila and opted for SoCo instead. The shot that I did with Eric probably only accounted for about 3% of the shots he did that night.

Colleen was not impressed by the fruity, girly drink options at the bar. There was no Malibu and the Amaretto Sours were too sour. We took an excursion down the street to a liquor store and bought some drinks to stash in the trunk. We then made intermittent trips the parking lot to fill up a glass and bring it back inside. Absolut Genius.

After reaching the ninth hour at the wedding, I was done. My buzz was gone, my cold symptoms were coming back and many other people had already left. But then the DJ started playing hip-hop, so Colleen and Meghana could not resist dancing. We pretty much closed out the wedding. By the time we left, they had already began cleaning up, removing table cloths from the tables, etc.

And then it was off to Taco Bell for a late night snack.

What a great plan to drink out of your trunk! Very good planning. The only thing better would be if a giraffe walked through the ceremony.
