Cooking with moths and maggots
Tuesday, June 19, 2007 at 6:02PM In Lindenhurst, there has not been a cicada in sight. But they are taking over Highland Park, my place of employment. I overcame my dislike of insects today and picked one up and let him crawl on me. He was actually quite calm and friendly.
What I don't understand is everyone's obsession with eating them. It seems that every day there is a news program or radio show that is doing a "Cooking with Cicadas" segment. Why the obsession? There's plenty of maggots and moths to go around. Why don't we see cooking segments with those insects? They are probably just as tasty when deep-fried in batter.
